EXERCISE FOR BETTER HEALTH AND LONGER LIFE!
By Kenny Lautner and Beverly Parker | July 7, 2023
Jogging is great for one’s physical and mental health. It’s also a great way to get your cardio regiment in while raising your heart rate. It is important to elevate your heart beat faster than when your resting beat in order to train your body to move oxygen and blood to muscles more efficiently, plus it helps to burn more calories and lower cholesterol.
Maintaining a physically active life can improve your brain function, reduce risk of disease, lower blood pressure, strengthen muscles and bones, and your chances for a more stress-free, successful, and longer life. It can’t be said enough about how important it is to have regular physical activity. It is no doubt the most important things in which a person can do for their health as well as peace of mind. Today’s individuals face a mountain of stressful problems whether on the job, family issues, societal problems: economic, crime, violence, etc… Coupled with said issues, people suffer from all types of illnesses which can improve, stabilize, and can ultimately transform their current condition(s) through daily exercise, thereby allowing one to live a happier and a more robust life.
We are living in a time where physical activity has been co-opted by technology. We no longer have to perform the physical activities which keep us moving throughout the day. For instance, when I came up as a child/teenager, my parents designated a specific time of the day for implementing an array of task around the home, i.e. cleaning the house, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming the floors, cooking or mowing the grass … you get the point. We are no longer required to do these task due to robotics and technological advances. We have advancements like the “Roomba Robotic Vacuum Cleaner,” that vacuums, mops and self-cleans its self. You push a button and it’s done. Nobody washes cars any more as a result of the many automotive advances in the car wash industry. We place our unwashed dishes in the dish washer. Soon people will not have to drive with the automations in the automobile industry. As a matter of fact, today’s cars park, brake, and steer themselves while at the same time giving you a message of what to look for — even depriving you of thought.
Our school age children don’t write cursive anymore — having some of the most horrendous handwriting I’ve ever seen — as they are growing-up in a world which revolves around technology. For god sakes… many of today’s youth and college bound young adults don’t even type anymore due to “voice to type” recognition features built into today’s technology. If you listen to the former President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, after he was questioned about classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago residence, he said they were declassified already, stating, “I could declassify documents by thinking about it.” At first I thought, “what a piece of work this man is,” but in actuality Trump may have something there. In recent reports from the “technology watchers”, and in Washington, DC by certain legislators, there is talks that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will one day replace man, as it can predict and finish assignments at a rate of 100 times faster and more efficient than humans. It has already established a starring role on the front-end of most customer service operations within most businesses. Again, making life easier and less active for individuals.
Children and adults spend too much time on computer games rather than going out of the house to play and get fresh air, and this goes equally for adults. Today’s algorithms are leading the way for many individuals toward unhealthy choices and a sedentary lifestyle. People were designed to move and learn of the wonders of life through actually experiencing life for ourselves. Unfortunately, we have not evolved toward physically moving any longer, having digressed to a more lazy and laid back society. And now we are beginning to see the negative outcomes, especially during and after the “Covid-19/Pandemic. The time we have spent watching TV, sitting home at our desk working for hours at a time without a break, and almost no exercise, individuals are now experiencing the damage it has done to their health. People, as First Lady Michelle Obama instructed us — get moving!
Some of the Benefits of a Daily Exercise Regiment are as Follows:
- Exercise helps to maintain a normal Body Mass Index (BMI). It’s important to maintain a healthy BMI as we grow older to ward-off health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes.
- It helps with our emotional wellness by reducing anxiety and stress by elevating our mood. Execrise communicates to the brain that the negative stimulus/threats are under control and need not be addressed in a combative fashion. It triggers those endorphins responsible for stress, thereby bringing about a more stable and relaxed disposition as the brain and the body is interconnected, both working in harmony towards a more holistic energy flow.
- Exercise enhances your confidence and your energy levels. It helps you to see beyond the ordinary challenges life may place in your path toward the completion of all, and going even further. Exercise increases your brain functionality, creativity, and motivational levels.
- It improves muscle strength. known to most in the health field, staying active and performing daily exercise will help you to maintain strong joints, tendons, and flexibility. As we get older, our risk to things like lower back pain increases. But through staying active, and maintaining a healthy weight, you lower your risk through keeping your joints aligned.
Eating Right Can Have A Positive Outcome On Your Life...
A number of individuals living today possess negative challenges when it comes to cholesterol issues. Many of you might have heard the old adage, “You are what you eat.” or possibly the one that puts it plain and simple, “Garbage in, Garbage out.” A high cholesterol level will boost your chances for a heart attack or heart disease. Yes, medication can improve your cholesterol number but the medication can be damaging to other organs in your body like your kidneys and liver. So why not get ahead of it all by subscribing to a more healthier diet? Consuming heart-healthy foods can reduce your cholesterol numbers as well as the need to take medication by reducing the saturated fats in your diet. It’s the fats found in red meat and full-fat dairy products. Get rid of the trans fats (cookies, cakes, and fast food). Replace them with things like vegetables, fruits, foods rich in omega- 3 fatty acids which do not effect you LDL cholesterol, while reducing blood pressure. And lastly, if you are a smoker and a heavy drinker [Stop] for a better and longer life.
